Every year, the standards for the amount of harmful emissions are becoming stricter. This is forcing automakers to move away from internal combustion engines that run on fossil fuels and switch to greener energies. Many countries have already announced the official dates for the introduction of a ban on the operation of vehicles with internal combustion engines and the transition to electric vehicles. Combustion engine automakers report that they will no longer develop and improve their units. However, not everyone is ready to give up so easily. Porsche has found a way out.

The automaker Porsche has no intention of abandoning the internal combustion engine. The company has launched a project for the production of environmentally friendly fuels. The project was launched jointly with Siemens Energy. It was named eFuels.

The project is being implemented in Chile, where windmills are popular. It is noted that the energy costs for splitting water, producing synthetic methanol and cleaning air are environmentally friendly and completely renewable. EFuels are formulated with fewer components than other fuels, resulting in lower emissions. The result is an almost completely carbon-neutral fuel. EFuels have over 85% less emissions than conventional fuels.

Today, the Porsche project is working as a pilot project, but from 2022 it will start full-fledged activity and will expand annually. The manufacturer plans to produce 130 thousand in 2022. liters of fuel, and already in 2026 to increase production and volumes up to 550 mln. liters.

The cost of this fuel today is $ 10 per liter. When production is expanded, the price will drop several times.

Porsche plans to involve other automakers in the project. According to the company, synthetic fuels are an excellent alternative to electric cars and hydrogen units.
