Lindsay Walkup
Fox, an accomplished go-kart racer in the
state of Florida, has recently made her move
to racing Spec Racer Fords in the Sports Car
Club of America (SCCA).
Lindsay raced
go-karts for six years winning the North Florida
Kart Club 2000 Yamaha Light Championship last
year. She attended Skip Barber Racing school and
received her competition license in July of
2001.
Lindsay was
brought up around sports car racing and sports
cars continue to be her passion. "My dad used to
carry me around on his shoulders at the 24 Hours
of Daytona," Lindsay said. "I've been hooked
since then."
Lindsay and her
father, Wilshire, made a deal that he would help
her race cars after she graduated from college.
"I think racing karts was bending the rules a
little, but I wasn't complaining," she said. Fox
graduated from the University of Florida in
December of 1999 and now she's ready to get into
a car.
In July Lindsay
participated in an SCCA driver's school at
Sebring International Raceway to get familiar
with the Spec Racer Ford. "It's a lot different
than the Barber Dodge, I love it," she said of
the Spec Racer. The weekend ended with a
five-lap race in which Lindsay took top honors.
"I had a blast," she said. "I hope this is a
sign of things to come."
Lindsay plans to
compete in regional races at Sebring
International Raceway, Sebring, Fla., Roebling
Road Raceway, Savannah, Ga., and Daytona
International Speedway, Daytona Beach, Fla.
before looking to race in the Pro Spec Racer
Series.
