I live in a small costal town on the north coast of California. I have been a NASCAR fan since 1987, I have had a few favorite drivers over the years and have lost some favorite drivers. My favorite track is Bristol because it is like watching F-14's in a bath tub.
It would be an honor to be able to say I came from a background of racers, that my fathers mothers were all racers, that it's in my blood. But, I am not, I'm real new to the pit side of our track. We've been spectators for the past 15 years at our local track of Redwood Acres Raceway. Then last year my husband Brett's best friend Mark Williams, asked him to be his crew chef. Well that's all it took, I was hanging onto my husband Brett's coveralls tail doing what ever I could to help out. The guys were the best about letting me help out, they taught me about the cars and just let me hang out with them. If they were at the shop, I was at the shop, doing what I could to work on the cars. I don't feel that I am a "turn-key" at all, I have learned a lot in the last year.
About
the Car: We started with an old junker, a 1976 Chevy Nova, which in November of 2000 we started striping out the car, pulling the motor and rebuilding it, then building the roll cage for it. We worked every weekend from November to April till we had us a real strong car that is doing great this year. The most fun about this racing thing was building the car. I run a '76 Chevy Nova real stock class, with a Chevrolet 350ci V8, my colors are white, purple, and red. We can not use any after market products only stock parts, and option for our make and models in this class.
Pit Crew: The BEST part about my crew is....... Well we would win more races if they would just stop fixing the rest of the fields cars. It is never a question for them to help or not they always will. Although this is my first season in the sport as a driver. I believe I have the best pit crew in the world, it is made up of the greatest friends and family anyone could ask for. First there is my crew chef and husband Brett, only man I know that would build a car and motor to let his wife race it. Then there is Mac he is the greatest suspension man, and a really nice guy, he keeps the car turning fast and left. Next is Branden (my 16 yr. old son) he is my co-pilot in the car and he is the pit rookie this year. We also have Penny, she designed and made all the stickers for both cars, Penny is a very talented lady. Then last, we have Mark "The Stick" he is just the pit "Bo Bo", Mark and I kind of like, drive the cars, and do what we are told to do in the pits. All kidding aside Mark is a great teammate, with out him I would not be racing my own car this year.
Simpson orders $1000.00 --- Race car $2,500.00 --- fee at the track $300.00 --- Beer for after the race $20.00 --- Friends and family spending time together at the track; Priceless --- you can't buy that with a VISA Card.
