Shawna Robinson
gives a new twist to the term "working mother".
From semi-trucks to stock cars, you canıt keep
Robinson off the track. After taking a four-year
absence from the racing circuit to start a
family, sheıs back in the driverıs seat as the
only woman racing in the NASCAR Winston Cup
Series beginning with the Daytona 500 in
February of 2002.
Robinson started
racing at age 18. In her 17 years in the sport,
she set two NASCAR Busch Series, Grand National
Division track records and was the first woman
in NASCAR history to win a pole position in the
NASCAR Goodyıs Dash Series. Robinson was also
the first woman to win a NASCAR touring event.
She raced in the Great American Truck Racing
series, the Paul Ricard Grand Prix Truck Race in
France, the NASCAR Goodyıs Dash Series, the Auto
Racing Club of America (ARCA), the NASCAR Busch
Series, and the NASCAR Winston Cup Series and as
well. Off
the track, Robinson is a mother, motivational
speaker and role model for women everywhere. Her
determination and media-friendly attitude have
landed her interviews with NBC Nightly News with
Brian Williams, ESPNıs RPM 2Night,USA Today,
Sports Illustrated, NASCAR Racing for Kids and
Health World.
First female to
start a NASCAR Winston Cup race since 1989 when
she began the race at Brooklyn, Michigan on June
10, 2001. When she finished it, she was the
first female to do so since Janet Guthrie in
1980.
First woman to
finish in the top 10 in points in any national
oval-track motor sports series (6th, 2000 ARCA
Series)
First woman to
complete a full season in any national
oval-track motor sports series (2000 ARCA
Series)
First woman in
NASCAR history to win a pole position in the
NASCAR Busch Series, Grand National Division,
with a track-speed record of 174.33 mph (1994)

Finished fourth
in the ARCA Bondo/Mar-Hyde Series race at Lowe's
Motor Speedway in Charlotte in 1999.
She also scored
the STP-Prestone Highest Finishing Rookie honor.
Finished second
in the 1999 FirstPlus Financial ARCA 200 at
Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway.
Raced a limited
number of 1995 Busch Series races in the No. 36
CPR Motorsports Ford Thunderbird.
First woman in
NASCAR history to win a pole position in the
Busch Series, Grand National Division
March 12, 1994, Busch Light 300, Atlanta Motor
Speedway.
Established new
Busch Series track record in 1994 at Atlanta
Motor Speedway - 174.330 mph.
Captured outside
pole, Feb. 26, 1994, for the Goodwrench 200 at
