It all began in May of 1998 when Angela
graduated from the University of Maryland at
College Park with a 3.6 GPA and two Bachelor of
Arts degrees -- one in Dance and one in
Psychology. Shortly thereafter, she purchased a
1998 Honda Civic EX and before she knew it, she
found herself on a dragstrip in Crofton, MD.
After running a 17.3 in that stock Civic, she
was hooked and began a quest for speed that
would ultimately lead her to become the 2nd
female professional sport compact racer in the
U.S.A.
One year later,
she implanted a 1998 Acura Integra B18C1 into
her car. It was at this time when she met her
soon to be Crew Chief, Chris Neidemire, who was
assigned the job of her engine swap at the
performance shop she approached. She had the
motor installed in August of 1999, the turbo in
September and by October she was ready to
compete. She ran a 12.6 second pass at 111 mph
at her first sanctioned race on October 31,
1999, which earned her the title of, “Fastest
Female Import Driver on the East Coast.”
For the 2000
season, Angela continued with the same setup: a
turbocharged stock motor with a thicker head
gasket, and raced in the street-legal class in
16 races on the East Coast running a best time
of 11.4 seconds at 124 mph. For a daily driver
with a 4-cylinder stock motor, that wasn’t too
shabby. Her accomplishments in 2000 included
winning 1st place in the Power 4 class at the
NIRA Fall Nationals on October 8th, 1st place in
the Import Survival Series 3 on August 26th, 2nd
place in Import Internationals on June 11th, and
5 Fastest Female Driver awards from Girlie Girl
Racing She had met her goals and it was time to
move on.
Along
with the help of Chris Neidemire, Crew Chief,
and Julio Cepeda, Asst. Crew Chief, she rebuilt
the car during the off-season to run in the Pro
4 Cylinder/Hot Rod class for the 2001 season.
The car produced 546 hp to the wheels and ran a
best time of 10.30 sec at 132 mph. They raced in
13 sanctioned events on the East Coast including
IDRC, IDRA, NIRA, and NHRA Import. Angela’s
accomplishments in 2001 included placing 3rd in
the Pro 4-Cylinder class at NIRA on Aug 5, 2001
and placing 3rd at NIRA on October 14, 2001. She
also won the Hottest Tuned Auto and Hottest
Female Ride awards at Hot Import Nights on July
7, 2001.
For the 2002
season Angela Proudfoot Racing has the strongest
program ever. With the addition of 4 new
sponsors: Tokico, APC, PETA, and Unorthodox
Racing, and one continuing sponsor, Offix, the
future is looking bright. They will be racing
the national NHRA Sport Compact circuit along
with two IDRC and two NDRA/NOPI races.
Dramatic changes
to the suspension and upgrades to the axles,
engine components, and all of the electronics
including the addition of a datalogger have all
contributed to their success this season. At
their first dyno session they hit 625 hp with a
built 4-cylinder 1.8 liter Integra GSR motor. To
date, Angela has run a best time of 9.93 seconds
at 142 mph and is currently 6th in points in the
Hot Rod class of the NHRA Sport Compact series.
So far this year Angela placed 2nd at the K&N
Filters NHRA Sport Compact Nationals on June
16th, placed in the top 4 at NDRA on August
16th, and won the Hottest Elite Tech award at
the Ocean City Import Car show on June 9th.
Her new website:
http://www.angelaproudfoot.com features the team’s latest news,
accomplishments, schedule, modifications, and
pictures. It has links to a lot of the articles
that have been written about Angela and lists
their press releases as well. In addition, one
can sign up for the e-newsletter detailing the
most up-to-date team news, which is distributed
about every two weeks.
Once the racing
season is over, they will be representing Tokico
Gas Shocks at the SEMA show in Las Vegas, NV,
November 5th-8th.
Angela Proudfoot Racing is, of course, looking
for bigger and better things for the 2003
season. To accomplish their goals and keep
moving forward, they are seeking a marketing
partnership with a title sponsor who will be
able to support their program in full. Their
program offers maximum media exposure with a
team that proves that a professional and
respectful image results in brand loyalty for
the sponsor. For more information and to request
