Sunny Hobbs is an up-and-coming female professional racecar driver. Her
ambition, talent and determination coupled with her camera-friendly and
fan-friendly personality will lead her to success. Sunny's goals include moving up from Late
Model Stock Cars through Dash or ARCA to to higher levels of NASCAR racing.
Sunny regularly competes in NASCAR's Winston Racing
Series in a Late Model Stock Car at Caraway Speedway in Asheboro, NC. She is also
competing this season in the Women's Global GT
Series in a Panoz GT car.
In 1998, Sunny logged a partial season as a rookie in
the Late Model Stock Car division of NASCAR Winston Racing Series at
short tracks in Virginia. She raced the #32 Monte Carlo at South
Boston Speedway, Langley Speedway and finished up the season at
Southampton Motor Speedway.
In 1997 Sunny finished 5th in points
competing in the Pro Supertruck Series at the high-banked, 4/10 mile
Southern National Speedway in Kenly, North Carolina.
Before that, she had 3 successful
years of local NASCAR oval track racing in the Charger
division of the Winston Racing Series at Southside Speedway
where she was a consistent Top Ten finisher.
Sunny also races a sportscar in the ITA and ITE class of SCCA
(Sports Car Club of America, as well as racing
in the EMRA (Eastern Motor Racing Association) series and has
won several events racing an Eagle Talon in the ITE class. She has wins at Rockingham (on the oval and
in-field road course), and at Summit Point Raceway (2 mile road course) in an EMRA event. She also
finished 2nd at Summit Point in an EMRA 4-hour night endurance race.
Sunny is a member of the Lyn St. James Automotive Team. As a team member,
she competed in the 1996 One Lap of America debuting for Ford/Mercury, the Mercury Mountaineer, where
the team won third in class.
Sunny is an excellent spokesperson with television
experience and ease in front of the camera. She participated in the Richmond area Public Library
program, Race Into Reading, a summer goal-oriented program to encourage reading, for
children of all ages. Sunny was also an advocate
for the Susan G. Komen Foundation and the Race for
the Cure to promote awareness of breast cancer research and
treatment, when competing as a member of the Lyn St. James
Automotive Team. She attended the Lyn St. James Driver
Development Program in Nov. 1995, which included seat time in a
Spec Racer, IMSA Mustang and ASA stock car.
