Sarah Dyson
My
name is Sarah Dyson, and I've just finished
competing in the Ford Saloon Championship in
Britain. It was my first year in Ford Saloons
and I was thrilled when I finished 2nd in
class, against all those men. I've already got
my next car for this season, and that's a
Fiesta Zetec S, which I will be racing in the
BRSCC Fiesta racing Championship, hoping to
put the men to shame yet again.
My love for
cars started when I was about 5. Instead of
playing with Barbie dolls, I had my model car
set, and as I got older, the interest grew
with me. When I left school I studied and
qualified as a mechanic and it turned out that
when all my friends were out socializing, I
was building a race car.
As soon as I
passed my test I had my first race in a MGBGT,
borrowed by the service manager of TVR, the
place where I now had a job preparing
the Tuscan race cars. It was at Cadwell Park
on a cold and wet November weekend, and I
managed to overtake another competitor before
retiring. From there I knew I had the bug! But
no money -- so I started converting my
road car, an XR3i into a race car which
could run in the Stock Hatch Championship.. I
finished my first season with a few bad races
and plenty of good ones.
I decided that
since I now had use of a company car, I had to
buy a proper race car, which was, funny
enough, the Fiesta I had built as part of my
course work 5 years previous. That was the car
I went on to win quite a few races in 2001.
I'm looking forward to this year and I hope to
have a few more race wins. I've given up
smoking and started at the gym, so I
definitely mean business this season. I now
have a sponsor: Allams of Epsom a Vauxhall
dealership and I'm still looking for associate
sponsors to help with costs. You can follow my
