Kelly
news: Racing for
Smiles
Dorothy did not come from a family background of
motorsports, in fact she realized her desire to
compete in Motorsports 14 years ago, when she
purchased and raced a "78 Z28 Camaro in Street (not recommended) and Track Drag racing. "That
car was such a thrill", After a few years of
racing, Dorothy decided it was time to start her
family, and hung up her Helmet, for now, anyway.
During her time in the
drag car, Dorothy was working and training
horses for Time and Game events and for some
time, worked with Thoroughbred Race horses."My
need for Speed was always a critical part of my
life, I had to find it in something, so it
became Fast Horses". She eventually settled into
the breed of the Paso Fino horse after moving to
the Ocala area, Florida's Horse Country. She is
the Manager and Resident Trainer of Corto Ridge
Paso Fino Farm. Dorothy actively, shows and
exhibits these fine animals in National
Competitions around the U.S. Her career as a
trainer /manger has blossomed into a thriving
business which has expanded into Sales, and
Stallion Management nationwide. Dorothy is
Currently marketing and standing one of the
Worlds Finest Fino Stallions.
Many years had passed, and
a strong desire to competitively drive again
kept surfacing. This time it would be a new
style that she sought, Short Track Stock Cars.
After some time of coaxing her husband Todd into
this idea, he finally gave in and founded Kelly
Racing. The helmet came back out of the closet.
Kelly Racing is a team
full of Talent and Desire, with the knowledge it
takes to be competitive, the marketing and
promotions it takes to keep your sponsors, and
the tough skin a female driver must have in this
male dominated sport. "Women drivers aren't
openly welcomed and rarely respected by their
peers, but someday, I hope to gain the respect
of other drivers", quotes Dorothy.
Kelly Racing is currently
building their newest Sportsman, for the
upcoming 2003 season at Ocala Speedway. The car
is a 1978 Pontiac Firebird, powered by a Chevy
350. Watch for our new Yellow and Blue #38
Sportsman at Ocala Speedway, on Friday nights at
8pm..
