Erin
Crocker
Erin is currently a senior at Rensselaer
Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY. She will be graduating in
May with a BS in Industrial and Management Engineering. Erin
began racing in 1988, at the age of seven in Quarter Midgets.
Throughout the next 9 years Erin gained incredible regional
and national success; at the age of 16 she was ready to move
up. In 1997 she began racing a 600cc micro sprint at Whip City
Speedway in Westfield MA where she earned rookie of the year
honors. In 1998 she competed in a 1200cc Mini sprint at Whip
City and with the Central New York Mini Sprint Association (CNYMS).
From there she began her dirt sprint car career. Racing the
Eastern Limited Sprint (ELS) car series in 1999, she again
received Rookie of the Year status. In 2000 and 2001 Erin was
only able to run a few random sprint car races mostly with the
Empire Super Sprints (ESS). In 2000 she was also offered the
opportunity to run a PRO truck with the former PRO Tour Truck
series.
In the fall of 2001, Erin was
asked to drive for Mike Wooding out of Eden NY.
The eight time ESS champion saw the unproven
talent. Erin is now currently finishing up the
2002 season. With two races to go on the
circuit, she is seventh and points and has
earned herself 5 feature wins thus far. She has
had mass media coverage including a full page in
the Boston Globe and numerous articles
in
National Speed Sport News as well as local news,
radio, newspaper and racing newspaper exposure.
She acquired a unique primary sponsor that being
her school, Rensselaer. The school was looking
to promote interest in the institute as well as
show support for females in male dominated
environments such as engineering and auto
racing. This fall she will be racing a big block
DIRT modified as well as a midget on both dirt
and asphalt. She will be competing in the famous
Chili Bowl in January. Next year,
Erin will be competing in the entire United States Auto Club (USAC)
Weld Silver Crown Series while continuing to race dirt sprint
cars on the off weekends.
Erin’s future plans include the
Infiniti Pro Series to prepare her for her
ultimate goals of running the Indy Racing League
and competing in the Indianapolis 500. “A
few weeks ago, Oshweken Speedway, the dynamite 3/8s mile dirt
oval near Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, hosted a 360 sprint open.
Several Empire Super Sprints' teams made the tow, including
all time win leader Mike Woodring from Eden, NY, and his
teammate, spectacular rookie, Erin Crocker from Wilbraham,
Massachusetts, author of five wins this season. Crocker won
that race, further solidifying her position as one of the best
rookies ever, of either gender.”
