Cindy Clark
I started racing in 1994 in a
dirt Street Stock at the highly competitive
Watsonville Speedway. Out of over 100 different
drivers throughout the season, I finished 16th
in points and garnered the Rookie of the Year
title. I set a five-lap heat race record and
finished in the top-5 twice.
I began a DARE volunteer in 1995,
taking my racecar to DARE graduations and
telling the kids that "Winners don't do
Drugs" and that drug-free, they can be
anything they want to be! Like me! I got serious
about pursuing a championship in 1997, and
bought a championship-winning car. We made
several trophy dashes and hovered between 7th
and 10th in points until a last week devastation
left us 10th in points for the season. 1998
would be the year I showed my stuff, setting
fast time twice, picking up two main event wins
and finishing 2nd in points. 1999 was a
transition year. I was the marketing consultant
for Watsonville Speedway, producing a commercial
for the track, setting up hospitality,
coordinating victory circle celebrations,
building a Street Stock for pavement and
co-hosting a sports talk radio show. We raced
three times on the dirt, winning my first trophy
dash, and three times on pavement, finishing 2nd
my second time ever on pavement and winning my
third time out, beating the track champion, at
Madera Speedway. In 2000, we campaigned
full-time at Madera Speedway, picking up two
more wins and finishing fourth in points. In
2001, I took off the helmet (which just about
killed me) and learned marketing and PR from a
NASCAR Winston West team. I was NASCAR legend
Hershel McGriff's PR person and learned how to
market to regional sponsors and how to write a
professional press release. I had a blast! I
have to get back behind the wheel, and this
year, I will drive a NASCAR Late Model in the
Weekly Racing Series presented by Dodge at The
Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. I can't
wait! The season starts March 16. Fans can keep
