The Racing Season is Over - You have Time
to Relax...Right? NOT!
Why this "down" time should be your busiest in prepping for the
next racing season.
The season is finished we have our trophy on the mantle and our
memories of the year. We've hung up our race suits and our high
heels worn at the banquet. Now we can sit back and relax until the
new year when we will start this all again...right? Wrong!
Now is the time to start the preparation for your next racing season and
to tie loose ends for the last.
Now is the time to make sure all outstanding invoices are paid up and
the final accounting is made for the past year. To have all the
numbers will help you with your budget for the following season and help
set realistic goals for your team next year. Having the real costs
of racing in front of you may be a rude awakening but it is valuable.
You cannot race Indy on a karting budget.
Just to say Thanks:
Why not drop a note to all your suppliers and sponsors saying thanks.
Not only is this a nice gesture it is integral when building
relationships with companies that are or can be sponsors in the future.
Many Companies have year ends on December 31st and marketing budgets are
being set. Start now to approach these companies for next year -
if you don't someone else will. As for your sponsors now is the
time to meet with them to give them a recap of the season and most of
all - how their sponsorship dollar gave them value. Come
prepared with any press you had received, a listing of all appearances,
a synopsis of the benefits they received. Showing it first hand
that your sponsorship in turn sells your sponsors product or service is
the way to keep them!
Keeping Life Organized:
There is always room for car, team and self improvements. Making
lists and having a calendar available will help keep it from being a mad
dash before the start of the season. Set goals - do you need to work on
the car? Do you want to race a different series. Make your
decisions NOW. It is importance for some "me time"
too- make sure if there is a book you want to read or a course you want
to take - do it now. If you feel like you need some help in your media
training and/or your public speaking why not do a couple training days
with a good coach.
Physically it is important to stay in good shape too so when you jump
back into that car. While you may not be able to afford more track
time in your car you can keep your skills in tact by karting or even
some of the new realistic video games can help with eye/hand
co-ordination. Watch as much racing as you can and stay in the loop.
The early bird gets the worm we hear all the time. Now is the
time to jump and work on getting those sponsors and make those plans!
The success of your racing season depends on it.
