Question: I've been hearing a lot about computer chips that improve the performance of a car - What do they do and are they worth it?

Answer: There are many "computer chips" available on the market to "improve" the performance of today's newer cars - let's remember that today 's cars have extensive computer run systems. These chips are set up to do a few or many things - such as advance the timing, increase the fuel delivery, change the spark curve etc. For the amount of "horsepower" they can add by letting your engine "think" differently, you will have to weigh the cost, and they do get pricey with the performance value. Turbo-charged cars are more apt to see the benefit of a chip since the computer can regulate boost pressure. MOST OF ALL, check your manufacturers warranty - if something was to happen with your vehicle and it is not a manufacturers chip you may not have warranty coverage.
