YOUNG RACER STAYS BUSY
Congratulations are in order for Alli Owens
on her success in the 2004 mini stock division
at New Smyrna Speedway in Florida.
For her first year racing on asphalt, Alli
finished 1st in rookie points and 3rd in
championship points. As far as we know, Alli is
the first female to be awarded “Rookie of the
Year” honors at NSS. In addition to her Saturday
night racing, Alli continues to be involved in
all aspects of racing. She just recently
graduated from the Lyn St. James Driver
Development Program held in December in Phoenix,
Arizona.
Alli was one of twenty girls accepted from
many, many applications. The program was very
intense with only one day of on track activities
and the rest of the week attending classes and
seminars on how to work with the media and
sponsors, mental training and physical training.
Female drivers such as Danica Patrick, Sondi
Eden (2004 USAC Regional Indianapolis Speedrome
CHAMPION!), Erin Crocker (just recently signed
with Everham Motorsports) and Deborah Renshaw
have attended this program and are some of the
most promising female racers today.
Alli also serves as spokesperson for RAD
(Race Against Drugs) speaking at schools and
other functions about the dangers of alcohol,
tobacco and drugs. In her spare time she works
at FinishLine Racing School to help with classes
and learn everything she can about racecars.
Alli graduated from FinishLine Racing School
this year. She is also working on starting a
“Racing for Smiles” chapter at NSS which is
developed specifically to make the dreams come
true for many young race fans that are seriously
ill with cancer or other life-threatening
illnesses or injuries. The children involved in
the program are patients of local children’s
hospitals. It is Alli goal to make a day to
remember for those children; a day that has
nothing to do with hospitals, doctors, or pain.
Alli now has two late model racecars that she
will be racing at New Smyrna Speedway and
possibly a road racing tour for the 2005 season.
With a new racecar, new graphics and a new look,
Alli will be, without a doubt, a driver to watch
this coming season.
