Rachael
Eagle kicks off 2005 in winning style:
Rachael Eagle has continued her impressive
form of last year into 2005 by taking outright
wins in the Pro Lites (250cc 4-Stroke) and Open
(450 4-Stroke) classes during the running of the
Queensland Women's state Title at Coolum
recently.
The Macarthur based rider was making her
debut riding Honda CRF bikes supported by On Two
Wheels Motorcycles Eagle came away from the
meeting more than pleased with the performance
of her new brand of bike. "Honda's are by far
the best bike's I have ever ridden, I'm just
ruing the fact that I didn't switch to this
brand of bike earlier," said Eagle. "The overall
performance of the bike was awesome, very
responsive and I had a lot of fun out there."
In the Pro Lites class Eagle came up against
a field of 27 riders and after placing seventh
in last year's corresponding event she was keen
to improve on that result. After placing second
and first in the opening two Moto's (15 minutes
+ 1 lap) Eagle went into the final Moto only
needing to finish somewhere within the top five
to clinch victory. In the opening corner of the
third and final Moto, Eagle came together with a
fellow rival which saw her fall off. Moments
later Eagle jumped back on her bike back and
began working her way forward from the tail of
the field, where she managed to fight her way up
into the top 15 at the completion of the opening
lap. From there Eagle managed to pick off her
rivals one by one, and on the final lap had
moved into her desired top five place and that
was where she finished, therefore taking out the
overall honours. "It was very satisfying win, I
knew that I had to play my cards, smart,"
confessed Eagle. "The bike never missed a beat
all day and the suspension setup was working
perfect."
The Open class was a much tougher task for
Eagle, despite a small field of riders, and she
battled throughout all three of her Moto's
getting used to 450cc 4-Stroke which took a lot
out of her psychically. Despite taking out the
overall honours it was never easy for the
28-year-old, and she finished with a win and a
pair of second placing's in the three races (15
Minutes + 1 lap). "I was completely worn out
after this event, although it was good to get
the win, it was a very draining on my body,"
explained Eagle. "I knew where I had to finish
in the last race, and I did that, and I came
away with the overall win in the class."
Overall Eagle was stoked with her weekend,
saying that she couldn't be happier that she had
made the switch to the Honda bike. "It was a
fantastic weekend, I couldn't have planned it
any better," beamed Eagle. "Heading into this
event I knew that it would take a bit to get
settled on the Honda, but once I got out there
everything just came together, and I couldn't be
more pleased. I just hope I can continue my
current run of form."
Eagle was also in high praise of Terry Hay's
from Shock Treatment in Wallica for his
magnificent work on her suspension with both
bikes. "Terry has done a wonderful job with my
suspension and the Coolum track was a real good
test for his work," added Eagle.
