Book
Review:
Well - if anyone can write a book on the principles of race driving, Ayrton
Senna's is the one book that you should read. There is no
argument that Ayrton Senna was one of the world's best Formula One race cars drivers in
all time - and his death still is mourned by those who love the sport.
I know you cannot learn brain surgery from a text book alone and therefore
the art of race car driving can't be mastered by reading 200 pages. On the
other hand this book can give insight to racing for the
beginner and a refresher to those of us (yes Nika is included) who at one time had a racing
license. But just like a good textbook, the chapters cover everything from
the basic correct driving position (yes DF, I know I sit too
close) to proper diet and exercise! Good graphics, from pictures to drawing explain such
principles like the racing line, braking to overtaking your opponent.
Thinking the book would be opinionated, I was
surprised how concise and in depth Ayrton Senna's commentaries can be. The conclusion is that racing
takes skill from both a mental and physical approach, but most of all it
takes talent...something a book can't give you.
That is something Ayrton Senna, world champion, had more
of than half the drivers out there today. You
may not have liked him as a person - but he
will always be remembered as a legend of
motorsport. A good read.
"In this book you will learn many of the racecraft secrets: how to overtake,
how to drift and skid in a controlled manner of fast bends, how to
concentrate at the start of a race, how to set up the suspension and save
your tires, what I do to win pole position and how to get fit for racing."
