The
Mechanic’s Tale
Life in the Pit Lanes of Formula One
Written
by Steve Matchett
So
one might never really think that a mechanic
can actually put thought on paper beyond the
scope of technical information.
I can’t say I’ve met a mechanic
that I could remotely consider being a poet
but Steve Matchett does have a way of story
telling his Formula One experience in such an
entertaining way.
I applaud him for his candor and his
honesty.
Instead of finding this book out to be
a National Enquirer of the race seasons it
shows frustrations, triumphs, hard work and
dedication. It takes just a few chapters to
befriend our author and sympathize with him
for the struggles he must endure.
Parts of the book do get technical –
I can’t say I enjoyed the discussion on two
piece brake ducts and front dampers but
nevertheless the author finds humour and good
sense in bringing to life what being a part of
the Benetton team was like.
To get a first hand view of the famous
names of Formula One such as Flavio Briatore,
Ross Brawn and a still fresh Michael
Schumacher makes this book a must read for the
Formula One enthusiast. For now I would love to have a set of titanium shelf dividers
myself Steve!
