A Sad Day in Racing
Racerchick
Jessica Pope gives us her thoughts and feelings about
the tragic loss of one of NASCAR's super stars. We
send our sympathies to the Earnhardt family, their
friends and colleagues......and to the millions of fans
who loved the Intimidator.
Yesterday I woke up at 6:00 a.m., it was the first race of the Nascar
season. The one and only thing that I have been looking forward to since
the last race of the season in November. The one thing that we always do
as a family is watch races or participate in anything that has to do with
racing. I have my favorite driver, Dale
Earnhardt Jr, my mom likes Tony Stewart and my dad loves the one and only intimidator, Dale
Earnhardt. Well our racing club always hosts a Daytona party. It gives everyone that loves
racing a chance to get together and watch the big race. We had to be there
early to set up and get ready. The excitement was so great the only thing
that was talked about since I had got up was The Daytona, who was going to win,
who was going to be the most promising prospect for the upcoming year.
Then the race begins. It was a great race, good racing and great
driving. Then with three quarters of the race complete the unthinkable
happened, a huge crash. With 21 of the cars involved and only the second
caution of the day, Tony Stewart was taken to the hospital and many others
drivers were out of the race. But with no major injuries the race
continued. Michael Waltrip was leading, Junior was in second and the
Intimidator was third it was going to be a great finish for
their team. While Dale was in third he was trying to keep everyone from passing
him so that Michael could win his first
Winston Cup race in 463 starts. The white flag came out and you know what that means Michael
only had to hold on for one more lap and he would
win.
The excitement
was so intense at our party anyone listening would have thought that
we were nuts. Michael and Jr. came out of
corner four and there was the finish line Michael had won. But then there was one last crash one that
would effect anyone and everyone ever involved with
Nascar, not to mention all
the fans. Dale Earnhardt still trying to hold his position and keep
everyone back, he got a little bump and lost control and hit the wall head
on. The crash not seeming to be that bad was fatal, it had claimed the
life of the Intimidator, one of the greatest drivers ever.
It is like losing your best friend we may have never
met him but that doesn't matter, he's still gone. Never again will
we ever be able to watch him race. The dream of getting
to meet him is gone and Nascar has lost one of the greats.
Please forward this to everyone, the world has lost a great
driver, competitor and a wonderful person. |
