Confessions of a Car Girl

Nika of racerchicks.comOde to the First Scratch

by Nika of racerchicks.com

The pain is something I can't put into words - the anger (directed at myself) is beyond the strength of  PMS - Nothing can evoke a car lover's emotions as the first scratch on their beloved vehicle. Well, the day came recently where this racerchick just ran out of talent and although I swore the pole moved - it was my right bumper that moved. right  in to it.  <insert sobs here>

Mom always taught me that being human is making mistakes but if you learn from them then it's worthwhile.  So what did I learn from this?  Surprisingly - ALOT.  First of all - I learned to never believe I am the world's greatest driver. I was being lazy - not using my mirrors. Heck - I've backed in this way hundreds of times!  Somewhere I read that 85% of drivers think they drive better than the next guy/girl.  Now does leave 15% that KNOW they are bad? There's scary thought.

OK - So it wasn't THIS BAD!!!!Secondly I learned we are all human!  Funny how as I recount my story others furnish their own personal experiences at Motoring Bloopers.  From the race instructor,  (yes a male!) that backed up a Ferrari 360 into a bunch of garbage pails, to the friend  (who wishes to remain blonde and nameless) that knocked off a car's mirror while negotiating a turn - it seems I'm not the only one who has suffered brain fade from behind the wheel.

Thirdly and most importantly I learned to take life as it comes.  The SUV can be fixed - people can't. Only my pride was hurt.  In the big race of life - this is just a speed bump. So now as I drive into the parking complex in the morning - wave to the kind attendant and find my perfect spot, I have a streak of yellow on the pole that will be a constant reminder to take my time and pay attention.  As for the scratch itself - it's already history  - thanks to a great body shop: Bianchi Bros. on King Street West in Toronto.  A quick touch up makes it barely noticeable..something I can live with until I find them the right paint code.

Coming Soon:  Why it's important to find the right body shop..
