There's nothing you can't do

I'm watching a 60 Minutes program tonight while typing away with some work I need to get done. They are focusing on a young man that has some severe issues......Derek Paravicini, a British gent, who's not only blind....but in the yes of the "norm" should be a vegetable. He's not - he is one of the most talented pianists....being able to create, play and beautify any group of notes.

Why does this have anything to do with racerchicks.com?

Sometimes we fail to look at our own capabilities. We get under the dark cloud of negativity, stress, and failure. It takes someone with worse problems to show us that things are okay. We can and will survive.

Each time we get behind the wheel of a race car we show the worked that we can do it. Whether we finish first or last doesn't matter - the fact that we TRIED...we DID it - that's what makes a racerchick a racerchick.

Okay - so it is almost March 2010 and my New Years resolution of Blogging is late. It doesn't mean I don't care. The last couple months were an adventure. The Olympics brought a new meaning - can you believe 80% of Canada GOLD medals are thanks to us chicks! WOOHOOO

I think that's just positively Fabulous. It shows that us gals have what it takes to be the best.

Yeah I can comment here about Danica's showing....Owens great drive. and all that - bit for now I want to gloat in the shadow of the other girls....the non- racing ones.

Inspire yourself - know you can accomplish anything you set yourself out to do

Cell phones and driving

We've all been guilty of it...chatting on our cell phones while driving, glancing down at our e-mails or text messages. Coming this Autumn if you are caught doing this you can be fined as much as $500.

I have an ego while driving- I think I'm a better driver than the next but then came a close call where my multitasking could have caused a serious accident. I have taken the plunge and I now go HANDS FREE when on the phone.

A car travelling 50km travels 45 feet<15> in one second....is that enough space to react to the unexpected? Stats also show that 80% of accidents are caused by driver inattention/distraction.

I hope the others that balked at this law like I did see the light. Look around you next time you are on the road - watch the people that seem surgically attached to their phones....they are 4 times more likely to crash. I don;t want to be one of them.

I found a few products at the local Canadian Tire store that make going Hands Free easy. NOTE: I AM NOT A PAID SPOKESPERSON FOR THIS COMPANY. Yada has a small in ear device that answers the phone by pulling it out of it's holder and finishes the call by placing it back in - 6 hours of talk time and 100+ hours of standby time. It sells for $79 - a no-brainer!

A wireless speaer fits snugly on your visor and a rear view mirror that attaches to your present mirror are also offered. I highly suggest you check them. www.letsyada.com for more info.

Road Rage? Me?

I just can't believe it. I almost EXPECT it if I DESERVE it but this was so out of the world. Here I am driving back from a friends - below the limit even and this silver van pull out in front of me from a side street. Sure he could have waited but no big deal - I didn't honk when he cut in front - a great song was on the radio and I had the orange Hemi out. Next thing I know HE BRAKE tests me! I never tail gate so I had plenty of time to brake but I did give him a honk for "WHY?" At the lights I look over only to see him give me the one finger salute and I can see him curse me out......I have NO cluue how I instilled such rage in the guy. His wife next to him looks Sooooooo embarassed. I honked for the brake test then moved over and ignored the jerk.

Okay so -this guy is NUTS - and if he can swear like that in front of his family I have NO respect for him...I slow down....he stays next to me pretending to turn into me. Dude - I have so much more driving experience = stunt driving that I can hit your car and spin you while only causing $50 worth of damage to my car - BUT I'm not like that. I ignore his aggresive moves. So he's staying next to me while I am slowed down so I will lose him with speed. See you - I am on the highway fee and clear. Although he really tried to run me off I got by and left him in some dust. Suddenly I see this van -he is following me! He even drove into oncoming lanes to keep up!

Okay - I am still wondering WHY or WHAT I did to enrage him - I never gave him the finger but I admit while he was saluting me I gave him the "Sorry for the 2 inches pinched finger and smiled".

He tried to follow me but seriously I lost him the second I tried. It goes to show you there are some irrational people - some ANGRY people that can certainly be a danger to motorists. Maybe he was jealous of the sports car. I never reacted to him cutting me off so I still don't know why he had to brake test me as he pulled out in front....... I pity the poor guy - his wife looked horrified and if he had kids in the van they were put in danger - he wasn't a good role model either. Oh well - I got home safe and sound ......feeling sorry for those nasty mean peope out there. I am not always the nicest driver but I didn't deserve this!

Romance - a day at the track

What a busy week - Here we come off of a great race weekend at Mosport( the local track) and we have some personal track time too. First off - A BIG THANK YOU to Black Dog Racing, Tony Gaples the driver - they helped me raise some money for the local children's hospital's cancer unit www.rallyforkids.com - please sponsor ME. Next we have an AMAZING time at the BRIDGESTONE RACING ACADEMY with their new Van Diemen race cars - WOW - what a thrill. Unlike other schools they let you push the car...they let you learn about real racing not just lapping. www.race2000.com.

Tonight though was the grand openign of the local Ferrai dealership. WHile I did NOT wion the lottery the night before that was a measley 45 million - hence I couldn;t really SHOP there. BUT....never-the-less it was an impressive building - impressive group and of course - IMPRESSIVE CARS. While there I thought about the people I have been honored to meet in regards to racing.....love to hear your stories! Let me give you a few people - Paul Newman, Guiseppe Risi.....Mario Andretti....JANET GUTHRIE...I'll write about WHY and HOW I think them worthy of my GREAT PEOPLE IN RACING
