Tool Management - Delson Products® Tops the List

They say a racer is only as good as their tools - a good torque wrench has to be in a place of honor, not just any ol' tool box can do so we set out to find the creme de la creme in screwdriver storage - and we found Delson Products

A Southern California based company - Delson Products has been building top quality tool management system since 1980. What sets them apart is their attention to detail. They create user-friendly workstations - from the basic to the custom designed. We spoke with Danny Delamater, President of Delson Products about his latest and greatest designs.

Nika: Now Danny - tell us what makes your tool management systems unique?

Danny: Our manufacturing process is no different than building custom street rods. You have basic rollers and then you have your full custom. What sets us aside from other companies is our products are all hand built and not mass-produced -- mass-produced is like Toyota, Nissan, and Honda in which they all look and perform well but still will not keep up with the hand built Lamborghini's or McLarens. In other words we pay attention to our customers, recognizing their needs. We have been in the business for 20 years with our other company, which we have taken most of the ideas for the integrity and function, and applied them to the Delson Products line. The hinges are all stainless steel, the paddle handles for opening the doors, all stainless steel slam latches, and the drawer slides are rated at 275 lbs per slide, which means 550 lbs per drawer. But I have personally have had more. We also use a special process of powder coating for the most durable strength paint job. In all reality our toolboxes will out last any other manufacturer on the market today, and the best thing is that we are not selling our name in the price of the box, we are selling you quality, longevity, and customer service, which set us aside from most other companies like Snap-On, Corn Well, Matco, Mac, etc. For instance, Snap-on is mass-produced with no customs, as well as with Corn Well, Mateo, and Mac. Lista is a modular system, which is mass produced, with no customs, Craftsman is mass-produced with no customs, and Knnac is industrial grade mass-produced with no customs. Delson Products is tailored made, hand produced, production like standards and cost less than most that have been mentioned.

Nika: Your custom work - how would you describe that?

Danny: For custom orders I work closely with the customer. We will take your idea and our expertise and build something beyond functional. Thinking of the customer's particular operation, we designed our product with quality, longevity, and ease of operation in mind, and to make the worker's feel at home, more comfortable, and to help provide a desire for them to work in a quick atmosphere.

Nika: Super paint jobs! How long would something like that take?

Danny: Depending on how elaborate the part is a job can range from 2 to 8 weeks. Powder coating is our standard, which only takes 2 to 3 days to complete. We also stock as much as possible, during the end and at the beginning of the race seasons. Because this is our busiest part of the year (October - May) we gear up knowing that we will sell stock items. But some seasons we do more custom applications than other seasons. We can build stock items within a 4 to 6 week span if it is not available in stock. Custom items naturally take longer, but you will get what you want.

Nika: Now I know you've done some other great work - not just toolboxes - tell us a bit about your other accomplishments:

The ultimate pit cart - Delson ProductsDanny: We have done trailers boxes for specialty car haulers, offshore racer teams, on road and off road. We have out fitted shops for aero space, drag bike, IHRA, IRL, cart, AMA Motorcross, Ama Super bike, Kawasaki USA facility, NASCAR, NHRA, IHBA, Go cart, general mechanics, IJSBA, Bush, snow mobile racers, hot rod shop, ASA, and the high end hobbyist. We have worked with them all and the list goes on. We also manufacture drag links that are on all the Winston Cup Cars, Bush Cars, and Craftmans Series Race Trucks.

Nika: Now you have a special signature series toolbox - Don Garlits. I love it - what made you do something so amazing?

Danny: We started the Don Garlits Signature series because of the interest in using a legend to promote a top quality toolbox. I would also like to get Petty Enterprise on board. Through grapevine rumor has it Richard Petty himself told a customer of ours that the custom tandem axle cart we built was one of the best carts he had ever seen.

Nika: I don't doubt that at all! Now you know Danny I have to ask - how about kitchens? - you know this racerchick is having her kitchen re-done.

Danny: I'm not surprised - I have been asked to build our boxes configured for kitchens by many women we talk to at trade shows. Questions like "could we incorporate sinks, stovetops, and other custom designs into our toolboxes" come up. I say, "Sure, what ever you'd like". There has also been interest in our products for bedroom furnishings. Who knows - the sky is the limit.
