Las Vegas (November 6, 2002) Meguiar’s, the world's
premier car care products manufacturer, in partnership
with X Concepts, the manufacturer and marketer of
Modifiers™, the popular new line of die-cast car and
truck collectibles, today announced the winners of the
first Meguiar’s/Modifiers™ Modifier of the Year awards.
In this inaugural competition, just four winners were
selected from the hottest domestic and import sport
compact cars, tricked-out trucks and SUV's on display at
the 2002 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA)
Show in Las Vegas (Nov. 5-8). This year’s winners
include:
Best Modified Import 1993 Mazda RX-7 - Alex Nguyen,
Mackin Industries
Best Modified Domestic 2002 Ford Focus - Marnie Kramer,
Classic Concepts
Best Modified Sport Truck 2001 Chevy 2500 Heavy Duty
Shawn Gibson, Gibson Performance Exhaust
Best Modified SUV 2003 Ford Expedition - Lance Laverty,
Street Scene Equipment
Each winner will have their vehicle reproduced as
1/64th scale Modifiers™ die-cast models to be included
in a commemorative collection to be sold in retail
stores. In addition to receiving trophies, each winner
will be recognized in post-SEMA coverage in various
magazines and on Meguiar’s, X Concepts’ and SEMA Web
sites.
All
of the participating vehicles were judged on the quality
and inventiveness of modifications made to interiors,
exteriors, wheels, tires, suspensions, customized
engines, engine compartments plus interior/exterior
cleanliness. A noted panel of judges that included the
following auto editors and tuners selected the winners
“With the breathtaking designs, superb quality and
tremendous diversity of vehicles on display at the 2002
SEMA Show, the judges had a difficult task selecting
just a single winner in each category,” said Barry
Meguiar, president and CEO of Meguiar’s. “These four
vehicles, truly representative of the finest tuner
efforts, will now be the first to help us promote
interest and passion among young enthusiasts for
customizing, for the collector car hobby and to ignite a
fascination with all things automotive.”
As part of its passionate support for automotive
enthusiasts, collectors and the hobby, Meguiar’s created
“Car Crazy Television,” seen on the SPEED Channel
national cable network, and “Car Crazy Radio,” which
airs weekly on nationally-syndicated stations.
Recipients of the Meguiar's/Modifiers™ Modifier of the
Year awards will also receive airtime on these two
popular programs.
