California Trends

Why can’t girls have a cool truck?  We’ve checked out Fabtech Motorsports, the largest original two wheel drive after-market performance suspension manufacturer for the SUV/light truck industry, for the answer on how to get one.

They say that the “lowered look” is passe in Southern California and the new trend is the higher riding suspension lifts, with Fabtech the leaders in the two wheel drive industry for over 10 years.  They have incorporated their off road racing technology into the design of their suspension systems.  We had a chance to talk with owner Dave Winner on what a racerchick can look for in improving her truck.

First of all we asked Dave – why bother?  “A suspension lift increases suspension travel and ground clearance of the truck/SUV, allowing for a larger tire as well.  The over all look of the vehicle is enhanced  - “remember a 37 inch tire absorbs a hole better”.   Although we know he meant out in the desert off-roading, we know of some incredible Michigan pot holes that pose an even bigger danger.  But why not a “body lift” wouldn’t you get the same look?  “A body lift can stretch hoses and wires and not give the same performance as a suspension lift”.
Fabtech TruckUsing computer aided design (CAD) and computer numerical control (CNC) equipment to help design and build performance suspension systems, Fabtech provides products that are above and beyond the demands of off road enthusiasts.  Design, testing, manufacturing and quality control are strictly monitored  to ensure the quality of their products.  One look at the facilities and I’m hooked – whether it’s dirt, sand or snow!

The cost of these systems depends on the type of vehicle and how drastic the change.  From simple kits to long travel kits, for desert and off road applications, the prices can range from $500 to over $2000.  An increase of female customers has been noticed.  Since the “pre-runner” look trucks are now chic.  Pre-runners are the trucks that pre-run the off road race course before the actual race.  Don’t be fooled, this is done at high speed.  A full service manufacturer, they also offer fiberglass fenders, brake lines and any other item that goes with creating the look and feel of a desert off road race vehicle.   In the old days it was monster trucks – but for today’s trends check out www.fabtechmotorsports.com

Blue is Better – Thanks to everyone there for the great tour.
