2007 Camry Hybrid – Toyota’s Popular Intermediate Car
Made Even Cleaner and More Fuel-Efficient
(TORONTO) – Just as the conventionally-powered Camry has
set a world-wide standard for safety, quality and
affordability in family transportation, the new 2007
Toyota Camry hybrid redefines the global benchmark for
the intermediate segment, combining outstanding driving
performance with exceptionally low emissions and fuel
consumption. Pricing for this exceptional hybrid will
start at just $31,900. CAD
Thanks to Toyota’s Hybrid Synergy Drive (HSD) powertrain,
the new Camry Hybrid is designed to exceed the world’s
most stringent emissions standards, including
California’s strict Advanced Technology Partial Zero
Emissions Vehicle (AT-PZEV) regulations, and achieve
fuel economy comparable to sub-compact cars. Camry
Hybrid is expected to deliver estimated fuel consumption
ratings of 5.7 L/100 km in both the city and on the
highway.
To meet the uncompromising performance expectations of
owners, HSD also maximizes available power. For example,
because HSD’s powerful electric motor is able to deliver
maximum torque instantly (unlike conventionally powered
gasoline engines, which only deliver maximum torque at
high engine speeds), the Camry Hybrid can deliver
seamless acceleration with just a touch of the throttle.
“The new Camry Hybrid adds an important choice to the
automotive marketplace, combining all the qualities that
have made Camry one of North America’s best-selling cars
with the outstanding environmental performance of
Toyota’s advanced Hybrid Synergy Drive,” said Tony
Wearing, Managing Director at TCI. “Since the
introduction of Prius, the world’s first mass-produced
hybrid vehicle, Toyota has led the market in making
hybrid technology affordable and easy to live with. The
new Camry Hybrid raises the standard for
environmentally-friendly transportation yet again.”
Camry Hybrid’s HSD powertrain delivers an impressive
V6-equivalent performance of 187 horsepower (140 kW). It
includes a 2.4-litre 4-cylinder gasoline engine that
develops 147 horsepower, and is coupled to a
Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). HSD also
comprises a small, specially developed 105-kilowatt
electric drive motor, along with an ultra-small inverter
with a specially designed compact 244-volt nickel-metal
hydride battery and a transaxle that provides the fuel
economy and seamless performance sought by hybrid
drivers.
Along with the performance advantages of HSD, the new
Camry Hybrid is also equipped with the roominess,
comfort, quality and safety that are built into every
Camry:
Quiet as well as clean: a sleek, aerodynamic exterior
manages air flow so that the Camry Hybrid has a drag
coefficient of just 0.27, enhancing driving performance
and reducing noise as well as improving fuel economy.
Comfortable and convenient: a high performance electric
climate control system keeps the interior comfortable,
while features such as Toyota’s Smart Key system
maximize convenience.
Top levels of active and passive safety: the Camry
Hybrid is equipped with Toyota’s advanced Vehicle
Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM) system, brake
assist and electric power steering to enable drivers to
maintain maximum control.
The new 2007 Camry Hybrid is expected to go on sale in
Canada in the spring.
