PORSCHE BOXSTER S
Here I am, the ultimate Ferrari girl and I'm
driving around the city in the new Porsche
Boxster S. The worse part is that I've
gone convertible and have a killer smile on my
face. It's winter but I'm thinking of
summer. This car rocks.
Acceleration is instant - the motor with that
distinct Porsche sound never lets you forget
this is a sports car. The 3.2 litre engine
gives a respectable 258 horsepower. A peppy 0
to 60 time of 5.7 makes this sportier version
of the Boxster achieve a fun factor of 10!
A top speed of 164mph (264km) was never
reached - I need to obey the law but I'm sure
of the vehicle's stability at high speeds -
it's the Porsche way of doing things. The
McPherson-strut suspension gives a solid
feeling in corners - oh what I would give for
a race track!
The interior is comfortable - while the stereo
can use an upgrade each knob and switch is
easy to decipher and reach. The clutch
is easy - a good thing since I was suffering
from a knee injury. Shifting was smooth.
This car was easy to drive that it could do it
without me -I wasn't going to try. For a
spirited drive the PSM (not PMS) Porsche
Stability Control is off and the car gives a
bit of a kick in a corner. Can a sports car be
both practical, fun......and reliable?
I had a sunny day yet cold day to tour the
city. With a quick release of the roof and a
push of a button and I'm topless. The
heaters on high and I am remarkably
comfortable. Curious looks from others
but still I could see their envy - here I am
enjoying a road ster
to the max. I look shocked to see a man
in his Boxster with the roof still on!
The trunk space is big by Porsche standards
(unless of course you are talking Cayenne) but
I find a quick grocery run and I've brought
home $150 worth of food stuff......I think
this car can be practical after all.
Practical is not a word I would use with a
sports car - but look what I'm used to.
With the Boxster you can go as far as you feel
comfortable - from standard to metallic
colours - many wheels choice and an cool
aerodynamic kit, just to name a few. The costs
can add up and reach a point where a 911 may
be a better bang for the buck. But don't
discount this as the Porsche 914 of today - it
is so much more. It's the new Porsche
550 - the real roadster the company made years
ago.
A new special edition Boxster S was announced
at the Detroit Auto Show. The 1953 of
them to be produced are significant to it's
predecessor the Porsche 550 which was unveiled
at the 1953 Paris Auto Show. The car
will come with a unique GT Silver Metallic
color only found on the Carrera GT and special
edition "40th Anniversary 911" models. For the
first time the soft top is in dark brown
colour named Cocoa - for chocolate lovers like
me I'm sure!
The Boxster has been a success story - it's
engineering and performance top notch. If
anything this has been branded a chick car -
one drive behind the wheel and I think they
meant RACERchick and I'm proud!
