The
550 Barchetta Pininfarina takes on New
York
New York - May 2001 and the Guggenheim was home to the best exhibit I have yet to see at a museum - The 550 Barchetta Pininfarina collection.
Actually it consisted of one blue Ferrari
Barchetta, a group of loyal Ferrari customers and this
racerchick, the ultimate fan. Designated as the "unveiling" of this fabulous piece of machinery I could only equate this with seeing the Mona Lisa painting for the first time - truly breathtaking. Speaking with a potential buyer, his comment that the Barchetta is an instant collectors item was second to the fact the car is an automotive masterpiece of looks, power and speed.
Only a limited run of 448 cars will leave the Maranello factory gates during 2001 with approximately half of those headed for North America. According o Ferrari this car was developed with the aim of being a unique Ferrari - one that "deliberately seeks to be more provocative and less rational than the rest of the range." Speculation to what this car is worth has already seen it's value go from zero to sixty in a few $100,000 of dollars. But to find one and purchase may be harder than you think - for to buy the 12-cylinder Ferrari Barchetta you must be "invited". To show how special each car really is each is individually numbered and carrying a plaque inside with the car's own serial number and Sergio Pininfarina's signature.
The attention to detail from the interior with it's carbon fiber accents to the exterior with it's logo gas cap - This car is a dream......a dream this racerchick would love to have in her driveway
Nika's note - I apologize for the picture quality - unfortunately the digital camera's batteries were low
